Background
As a part of the OCDSB’s ongoing policy review process, staff considered whether any policies could be merged with related policies to streamline and simplify the content. We found that two policies had overlapping content: P 046-SCO: Distribution of Material to Home via Students, which establishes a framework for the distribution of materials by students to their homes, and P 115-COM: Advertising, which creates guidelines to govern advertising spend by the Board.
Proposed Revisions
The OCDSB is proposing a new policy on Distribution of Communications Materials in Schools that merges these two existing policies. This new policy will ensure that communication materials distributed in schools comply with relevant legislation and OCDSB policies and procedures, and support student achievement and a sense of belonging.
Due to existing common areas in both policies, we believe that delivering this guidance through one policy would improve clarity and provide a one-stop reference. This approach also reflects the fact that most information now goes directly to families, instead of through students.For more information, view these documents:
