At a Board Meeting on April 29, 2025, the Board of Trustees approved a new Learning Resources Policy, which merged two existing policies on Learning Media Requiring Approval and Learning Resources.

Policy

This new policy will guide the selection of classroom resources to ensure they support teaching and learning while upholding the Ontario Human Rights Code. The primary objective is to align classroom resources with the Ontario curriculum, enhance learning for all students and foster an inclusive and equitable educational environment.

Staff presented Report 25-009 to the Policy Review Committee on February 13 and to the Board of Trustees on April 29, where they discussed the draft policy.

Consultation

We held an online consultation on Engage OCDSB from February 13 to March 14, 2025 and invited families, students, staff and community members to share their feedback. We also gathered feedback from trustees and committee members during the meetings where the policies were discussed. This feedback helped to inform the revisions to the policy. We would like to thank all who participated in the consultation process.
