At a Board Meeting on February 25, 2025, the Board of Trustees approved revisions to our Respectful Workplace Policy.

The OCDSB is committed to providing a workplace in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and work in an environment that is free of workplace harassment, bullying and disrespectful behaviour. Following the recent approved revisions to procedures PR.542.HR: Alleged Employee Misconduct toward a Student and PR.652.HR: Respectful Workplace, we are proposing updates to our Policy P.009.HR Respectful Workplace to align with these changes.

Revised Policy

The updated policy aligns with the recent revisions to procedures PR.542.HR: Alleged Employee Misconduct toward a Student and PR.652.HR: Respectful Workplace. Key changes include:

  • details about the kinds of behaviour that will not be tolerated in the District-wide workplace;
  • removal of procedural content, which moved to the associated procedures;
  • references to procedures for addressing a Poisoned Work Environment; and
  • updates to definitions to align with evolved District and industry standards.

Staff presented Report 25-008 to the Policy Review Committee on February 13 and to the Board of Trustees on February 25, where they discussed the draft policy.

Consultation

We held an online consultation on Engage OCDSB from November 14 to December 12, 2024 and invited families, students, staff and community members to share their feedback. We also gathered feedback from trustees and committee members during the meetings where the policies were discussed. This feedback helped to inform the revisions to the policy. We would like to thank all who participated in the consultation process.
